Sarchu - A fascinating place

Sarchu is one such place which is very popular for hiking.  Sarchu is some 14500 feet above sea level and is sandwiched between the Baralachcha La and Lachlung La passes.. It is also very close to an Indian army camp on the banks of the Tsarap Chu river.

Religion and Culture:
Even though there are many Buddhists in and around here but Muslim population dominates here. Even the official language of this place is Urdu. But overall the Buddhist culture is prevalent. The colourful festivals and events keeps the land busy with games like Archery and Polo. 

Lifestyle
Simple living is the mantra of the people here and they love their nature. The women wear woolen robes with a colorful waist band and men wear hats and pyjamas.

Monasteries
The monasteries can be reached from here by roads or by trekking. This is quite deserted but is safe for staying as the people here are very friendly. The essence of its culture lies in the Buddhist monasteries and their beautiful Gompas.

Social Structure
It follows the patriarchal system of structure. Some people may choose to become Lamas while some may follow the family trail.

Buddhism
Buddhism has been evident and prevalet in areas of Leh. Many Lamas can be seen around and they live in the monasteries.

Reaching Sarchu
Sarchu is associated with hiking on the Leh-Manali highway. It is an astonishing place on the border of Jammu and Kashmir(Ladakh) and Himachal Pradesh. It is more like a stopover for the long trekking route.
